amish technology question

in a technology ethics book i am reading for class, they say that the amish leaders decide if a an item is acceptable for amish used based on the question "Does it bring us together, or draw us apart?" i am curious about people's opinions on this. my take is that balance and intent make all the difference and that some people use technology to escape and that others use it as a tool and that it brings some together.

At this point it seems that the question's answer would be based solely on the answers the Amish came up with every time before. For instance, the amish are all in one place because they answered their question against anything that could have drawn them apart in the first place. So computers may bring them apart from each other, however they would bring them together with people beyond their physical capabilities. And for someone who has not answered previous questions based on that thought, they surely have family everywhere and friends everywhere, and can use technology to definitely bring together. I think it depends on who you want to be brought together with and where you have been brought so far.

Sorry so late, just reading past posts because I didn't know this wonderful world of Kim existed until you left me a comment.
